Version 1.0 — Last updated: 2026-07-26
1. Summary
Ballon is deliberately light on cookies. We use only essential cookies needed to log you in and keep your session secure. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or third-party marketing cookies, and our usage analytics are cookieless. Because we set no non-essential cookies, we do not currently show a cookie consent banner — none is legally required for strictly necessary cookies.
If this changes (for example, if we add advertising or non-essential analytics), we will introduce a consent banner and update this policy before those technologies go live.
2. What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored on your device that help websites function properly. Depending on their purpose, cookies may be temporary (session cookies) or remain on your device until they expire or are deleted (persistent cookies). Ballon also uses similar technologies where appropriate, such as browser storage and service workers.
3. Cookies and similar technologies we use
- Authentication and session cookies — set first-party by Supabase, our authentication provider. They keep you securely logged in and maintain your session as you navigate; without them, you cannot use your account. Strictly necessary — no consent required.
- Cookieless usage analytics — provided by Vercel Analytics. Aggregate, privacy-preserving usage measurement that sets no cookies and stores no personal identifiers; visits are counted via a non-reversible hash. It does not create advertising profiles or track your activity across other websites.
- Push notification service worker — Firebase Cloud Messaging, only if you enable notifications. Enables the browser push notifications you opt into, using a service worker and a device token, not advertising cookies. Consent is given via the notification opt-in.
We do not use: advertising or targeting cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or analytics that profile you across other sites.
4. Managing cookies
Because we only use essential cookies, blocking them will prevent you from logging in and using core features. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings (see your browser's help pages for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge). You can turn off push notifications at any time in your browser or device settings, or within Ballon.
5. If we add advertising or non-essential cookies later
Should Ballon introduce advertising, behavioural analytics, or other non-essential cookies, we will:
- present a consent banner with clear Accept all / Reject all options of equal prominence, defaulting all non-essential categories to off;
- provide a persistent link to change or withdraw your choices at any time;
- keep records of consent; and
- update this policy to list every new cookie, its provider, purpose, and duration.
Any advertising introduced will exclude gambling/betting content and advertisers.
